Join Twyla Hansen, Nebraska State Poet, and Dana Fritz, professor of art at the University of Nebraska, in the exhibition Wright Morris: Nebraska Pictures for a discussion of poetry, photography, and culture. A public reception in the Great Hall will follow the program. Hansen is the author of numerous books of poetry, including Dirt Songs: A Plains Duet. Fritz teaches photography and will soon release a monograph Terraria Gigantica: The World Under Glass.
Nebraska figures prominently in the work of Wright Morris, an award-winning novelist, photographer, and essayist born in Central City in 1910. On display in conjunction with Nebraska 150, the state’s sesquicentennial celebration, Wright Morris: Nebraska Pictures presents photographs from Sheldon’s collection that exemplify Morris’s sensitivity in capturing details of rural Nebraska in the 1940s.
